Mindful Movement

If you encounter any difficulties in booking, please email classes@sadiecentre.org or in urgent cases, ring Reception on 01462 678804

Moving Mindfully is just that! A gem of a class, it teaches you to move with attention and ease – in ways that reduce muscle tension and stress, and keep you relaxed. And if the body is relaxed, the mind follows suit… The approach combines key elements of Pilates, Yoga and T’ai Chi with the principles of the Alexander Technique – and we’ve been running it with great success for over 30 years.

Please be aware that as Judy is also a teacher of Alexander Technique, Moving Mindfully classes normally include a short carefully facilitated section of gentle hands-on partner work – just a quiet hand on the back, enhancing the sense of presence in the back.  Students often find this a most beneficial aspect of the classes, effortlessly encouraging greater poise and spaciousness in movement.

What People Are Saying

“My back is so much better because of the gentle stretching and other activities. I don’t need to go for osteopath or remedial massage now, which is a major advance. The relaxation element has also given me tools to apply to reduce stress and depression. The class provides exercises to do in the week between sessions which contribute to the efficacy. The atmosphere of the class which is of mutual support and personal respect is so good. This is down to Judy. It is stressed that you only do what is good for your body which is important. You always end up with a calm and positive feeling because of the feedback given during the session.”

I am more in touch with my body and more often conscious of it when I move. This is actually enjoyable and helps me to be present in the moment more often. I am also more often allowing my body to be more in alignment. I love this evening class, the lights are low and it’s incredibly relaxing and yet I come out of it with much more energy.”

Judy Hammond

Judy is the Centre's very longstanding teacher of Alexander Technique and Moving Mindfully classes, and co-creator of the Positive Movement training course.

Judy is a lifelong lover of movement and dance. She began with ballet lessons in childhood, studying with excellent Russian and Royal Academy teachers, and continued studying many genres of dance throughout adolescence and adulthood including contemporary, jazz, stage dance, Greek island dance, Egyptian folk and classical dance.

Judy’s exploration of yoga, tai chi and Pilates led her to wonder how she could perform and teach movement/dance that respects and maintains the natural use of the body which she had learned through these ancient art forms. This brought her to the Alexander Technique, and she now shares her passion and deep knowledge of movement with thousands of students, helping them move more naturally, gracefully and easefully.
