Tai Chi was originally created by the Taoists of Wudang Temple China and is a martial art that is rooted in Taoist practices and philosophy. It is a very gentle, evidence-based approach to reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and benefiting the entire cardiovascular system. T’ai Chi is also one of the most effective ways of improving balance and muscle strength. Through practising its slow, stylised, dance-like movements, your concentration will improve and you will learn to live more in the moment.
Tai Chi works the body by creating continual expansion and contraction, coiling and releasing. The power that moves through the body forces the muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia to expand, opening the joints of the body and the spine, releasing tensions that are held within our systems. This leaves the body in a state that feels both light as a feather and profoundly grounded, as soft as cotton and as hard as steel.
It is moving in this way that has seen Tai Chi being used to treat many conditions. Among these are; arthritis, poor balance, joint and muscle pain, immobility, poor blood circulation, stress and insomnia. It is also used as a way to increase vitality and to strengthen the condition of the whole system (known as The Three Treasures: the body, the Chi and the mind).
Classes are suitable for all ages and fitness levels and are held both at the Centre and online.
