Over my 25 plus years as a BACP accredited counsellor working in Hitchin SG5 with couples, individuals, and students in counselling trainings, I know that stuff happens, and naturally, our relationships sometimes have trouble keeping up. I have worked in GP practices and voluntary organisations both as counsellor and supervisor and been in private practice since 1997. I worked with Relate for three years and have 25 years of working with both individuals and couples, including eight years as an Axa ICAS counsellor. I have also worked extensively for other Employee Assistance Programs, where I had experience dealing with short term solution focused interventions to deal with specific issues when necessary. However, long term change is often best brought about through longer term work.

Together we have an opportunity to explore how you may have come to view your life. Although I will not tell you what to do, I will encourage you to find your own insights so that you can find more successful ways of resolving your difficulties. I work with relationship difficulties and breakdown, relationship enrichment, depression, anxiety, anger, a sense of futility or defeat, frustrated expectations, substance dependence, loss, work related difficulties, stress, parenting issues, low self-esteem and self-confidence, and issues around abuse and boundary setting. My primary training is both psychodynamic and person-centred. Both this training and my human experience of living as a member of a family and community enrich and inform our work. Whilst few people relish the idea of therapy, it is just possible that we might enjoy our work together!

  • Maina Warraich

Whether you lie in bed worrying about things, have anxiety, panic attacks and keep overthinking, or you often feel numb or completely overwhelmed, I am here to help you live a life where you can feel more at peace and confident.

I’m passionate about supporting adults with anxiety and depression, and get how isolating and debilitating it can be.

People can say things like “just be positive” or “don’t worry about it”. It can be hard for them to understand that it isn’t as simple as just focusing on something else. I get it. It’s not something you can easily change.

As a psychodynamic therapist, I believe in order to be able to create long-term changes, it is essential to identify the root causes of your struggles. This will give you a chance to explore and process painful emotions and help you to become unstuck from your current situation.

The counselling sessions will be tailored to your needs and if it’s right for you I can incorporate mindfulness, breathing techniques and EFT Therapy. These tools can help you to better understand and managed your emotions. EFT Therapy is similar to acupuncture, but instead of using needles, pressure points are gently tapped on whilst focusing on the distressing issue. EFT can be incorporated into counselling sessions or done as a separate approach. I work face to face and online.
